That strategy should work, but you'll need to get the contents of
/usr/OV/bitmaps too. The symbols are defined in /usr/OV/symbols, but the
images are bitmaps.

And after you transfer the files, I 'd do
ovw_fields
ovw_verify
ovw_config

to get everything synched up before you try to open a GUI.

Did you want the loaded MIBs, too? If so, then get /usr/OV/conf/snmpmib
and snmpmib.bin, and snmpv2mib and snmpv2mib.bin.
Obviously if you want the MIB files themselves, then you'd have to transfer
them from /usr/OV/snmp_mibs or wherever they are installed.
And I thought that there were Cisco items added to the menus as well. Then
you'd need /usr/OV/registration as well.

Good luck.

Thank you for you suggestions. Let me run this by you all and see what
you all think and in the process clarify a few things.

1) the current production netview apparently is corrupted but we do not
know the extent. Its limping along...I was advised by Support to restore
the current production from a good backup, however since I don't how
long we've had issues and we had just received our new server
(hardware)decided to build it from scratch.

The new server (pSeries 520) came with AIX 5.2 (which is also running on
the production server but this one is an H70). I installed Netview 7.1.4
FP 4.

We have a CiscoWorks (Windows) to access Ciscoview and all other CW
applications. I don't want to back level this new server to 5.1 just to
get icons? We only want the cisco symbols/icons on the map. Can I just
transfer specific files for mibs/traps/symbols to accomplish this?

I believe the files I need to copy from Production are:
oid_to_type
oid_to_sym
/usr/OV/fields
/usr/OV/symbols
/usr/OV/snmp_mibs
/usr/OV/conf/C/trapd.conf

is that correct?

Yes, we did it. In fact, now we have it in production environment, and
it
is working very good.

Catalina, you can find the mail that I send to the list, the reference
to
find it is: Error Integrating Netview - CiscoWork...

I hope that information can help you...but whatever you need, let me
know.

Perhaps someone with actual experience with this will chime in, but per
the
postings in the past, the Cisco integration utility does not run on AIX
5.2. The last level was 5.1. While the NetView migration utilities
pulled it all over for your migrated system, because they save all user
mods, you cannot run the utility on AIX 5.2, or so I am told.
however,
there is nothing to prevent you from manually copying all the pieces
from
one system to another. Or you might try de-installing NetView, copying
the
migration directory /usr/OV.back.v7r1 from your old system to his new
box,
and doing an update install here as well. You can then re-customize
this
new NetView to your liking. You can go to /usr/OV/newconfig and get all
the new install files and replace the migrated ones. You can clear out
xnmsnmpconf and replace it with your default community names, You can
then
delete the database and start a fresh discovery. Whatever you want to
do.

Subject: [nv-l] Cisco Integration Utility

Hello,

I'm trying to load all cisco symbols/icons onto Netview. I've downloaded
Integration IntgUtil.v1_6.AIX and tried installing. Its giving me a
bunch
of errors

ERROR: Install patch bos.rte.libpthreads 5.1.0.0
ERROR: and retry installation.
ERROR: Bad OS version 5.2.0.0

I'm running AIX 5.2 and the integration Utility that I downloaded is the
latest AIX out on Cisco Website. I do have a ticket open with Cisco but
just wondering if anyone has successfully installed the integration
utility
on AIX 5.2.

I currently have AIX 5.2 and the integration utility installed. this
server
was migrated from AIX 5.1 ->5.2 and the integration utility migrated
along
with it. However, the one I'm questioning is a brand new server, came
with
AIX 5.2, installed a brand new Netview and integration utility.

I just want the cisco symbols on the netview map (as well as all the
traps
and mibs).
