When the device (ex: cisco router) is discovered, that map show's it as a blank node, no interfaces were discovered. Community strings are in the communityNames.conf and snmpwalk from command line is successful....    This is what is in netmon.trace:
12:40:42 : LOG: ERROR:hostname:gotSnmpResponse(): returned
noSuchName on the first request and has no untried alternate SNMP versions. Current version is v1.
 Terminating this poll.

Re: [NV-L] NetView 7.1.5

Depends on what you got the noSuchName for. The demandpoll query includes checking for things like the Mid Level Manager or the System Information Agent, and for almost all nodes, you'll get noSuchName for that

noSuchName means the agent gave a null response to that part of the query. That's different than not having SNMP access, which would be indicated by "no response before timeout" for everything

But you should not see it for things like system Identifier, which is fixed, though you might see it for system description system location if those are not set

What makes you think there's a problem with the access?

[NV-L] NetView 7.1.5

Hi All,

I did a fresh install of Netview 7.1.5 on AIX 5300-05.. Currenly using a seed file for discovery. Some devices are discovered ok but some appear to have icmp access only. I perform a snmpwalk successfully but when I do a demandpoll on the device I receive SNMP error: noSuchName..

Any idea's?

Thanks, Dave
