Under Option...Events, find the netview6000 enterprise, and then find the
events you want.
One of the boxes near the bottom of the dialog is there for you to enter the
text that you want
to appear in a beeping pop-up. If you put something in there, like the contents
of the event
as it is formatted in the preceding box, it will appear in a pop-up along with
a beep. You
will probably tire of this shortly, but it is fun to play with. There is also
an app-defaults file
to let you control the volume and duration of the beep, I think. If you only
want the beep
for down/up events for certain devices, use the Copy function rather than the
Modify
function. Then, enter a list of nodes to which this version of the event
applies.

How do I set up NetView 4.2 on Unix to 'beep' or sound some alarm when a
'node up/down' event occurs. I have set up a paging facility, but would
like to make an audible alert to notify operators in the area who may not
be watching the console.

Thanks,
John Mutrux
