We've has NT DNS up and running for a while. I have in the near past discovered 
about 2100 devices on the network. So I really think there's some kind of 
corruption going on here. I did open a PMR to see what Tivoli can do.Thanks for 
your suggestion.

Are you using NT DNS because this caused us loads of problems especially
if reverse resolution does not always match forward resolution?

I added all my devices to the /etc/hosts file and all worked well. It's
now on my todo list to sort out later - especially as I don't have
control over our DNS server.
