I have a customer who still has a bad taste in their mouth after the move
from Netview V4 to Netview V5. It took them six weeks to get happy with
Netview V5 after the upgrade.
Hearing that Netview 5.1 was basically a reinstall does not make them happy
either. I'm sure you all have hashed through this and it is history, but
forcing two
re-installs in a row is a bad idea.
I spoke with Tivoli Support yesterday and they told me that Netview V5.0 is
still
supported and there is no planned date to remove it from support. The customer
I am supporting will not leave the Netview V 5.0 level until forced to do so.

Subject: Re: Installing Netview 5.0 on AIX
Gerry, why do you want to install 5.0 (I think Scott is saying 5.0 is
unsupported too)?
I would avoid it, since an awful lot of bugs have been fixed since then (two
years' worth!)
and nice new functions added. The current product is measurably more stable, if
you
ask me...

So, if I'm reading this correctly....
Netview 5.0 is supported, but the framework it runs on (3.2) is not supported.
If you
want to get to a supported framework (3.6), you must install Netview 5.1, which
is
a re-install and not an upgrade...
Is this true???

You will not be able to install NetView 5.0 on Framework 3.6. Only
NetView 5.1 and up will install on Framework 3.6. Without seeing the
logs I cannot be sure but this is probably the reason for your
installation failure.
NetView 5.0 will install on Framework 3.2 but is unsupported in any
case. As James said, the only course of action we can recommend is
upgrading to NetView 5.1.
