CW 4.0 is obsolete. It's of Cisco's sales list and will be supported
for a limited time. All development has stopped.

Michael,
Thanks for the info and the link (I finally got it to work). When I was
looking up the information on the integration, all I could find is that
right now the integration consists of being able to import CW2000 data into
Tivoli Inventory and I believe support for Software Distribution. I have
another question concerning the NetView/Cisco Integration. When I was at
the Tivoli site yesterday it showed the CW2000 as being tivoli ready and the
CiscoWorks 4.0 integration with Netview still under development. This left
me a little confused (having not worked with these Cisco products yet). Has
anyone else found anymore info?

Scott you got to define what kind of integration you need and then see
what is available.
CW2000 doesn't integrate as tight into management platforms (e.g.
NetView and NNM) as the old CiscoWorks 4.x did. Actually you have a
bit of GUI, a bit of data and a bit of web integration.
The GUI integration is done between CiscoView (part of CW2000 Campus
aka CWSI) and the management platform. Supported platforms are NetView
on AIX and NNM on NT, Solaris and HP-UX.
The data integration is import of object information from the
management platform into CW2000 Essentials (aka Resource Manager
Essentials, RME) inventory database. The supported platforms are the
same as above plus CWSI. I have to agree with Edvyn that importing
from CWSI isn't the best choice. netmon of NetView or NNM does a far
better job of discovery.
Web integration is done between the web interface of NetView or NNM
and RME and is just links.

Scott,
By going from cw2k (assuming is version 2.x) to NetView is not as advisable
based on our experience. Unless you are using Campus/cwsi to do the
discovery
and that your network consists of only Cisco devices. Version 2.x of
Campus/cwsi
discovery is not as robust as Netview's. The next version of Campus 3.x will
be
much improved for this purpose, and then it would be better to add new
devices
from Campus to Essentials. However, you still have a problem, how are you
going
to sync the number of devices between each of these applications! This
should be
forthcoming from the vendor shortly (maybe in a year or so!)....etc, etc,
etc

Thanks for the info, I believe I'm going to get the opportunity to integrate
these two products very soon and am looking for any input. We however will
end up doing the opposite and use the CW2000 as the source for the Cisco
devices and move them to NetView.

Scott,
According to Cisco, you may integrate the products if you have enabled the
web-based feature on TME/NetView.
Our integration involves using NetView as the source for all Cisco devices,
and
using adding them automatically to cw2k db. In addition, we also have to
update
the host file and the dns entry for name resolution. In addition, we also
have
syslog messages forwarded to Netview's trapd which will be displayed on the
event console, which, if TFNC is used, will be used for the root cause
analysis
of these messages, etc, etc. etc.

My question would be then that both Cisco and Tivoli have stated that CW2000
is Tivoli Ready. Is this not the case since you had to write your own
scripts for integration. How are you doing your integration if you don't
mind me asking?

Cw2k is a standlone application, a resource hog not designed from a
performance
optimization perspective as yet, and lack crucial functionalities. For the
most
part, cw2k has the potential to be a great product, if we continue to pursue
this with Cisco. We have an implementation, where we have Netview on AIX and
cw2k
on Solaris. We wrote some scripts in-house to integrate between these two
applications.

Does the 5.1.2 release of Netview allow for intergration with
Ciscoworks2000. Or does anyone know when that integration capablity will be
available for Netview for NT.
