Ok, now that smconvert works, I wonder if you have been collecting any
expressions in your MLM data, and tried to dump the converted data into
an rdbms with nvColToSQL? It appears to me that the bang file generated
by smconvert, while it works with snmpColDump, is not useful with
nvColToSQL.
The MLM bang file for an expression looks like this:
UNIT
INTEGER
1.3.6..... (the oid for MLM thresholding results table)
23.34.24....................................1 (the really long instance
from the results table.
To get it to work with nvColToSQL, we had to:
1) replace line 3 with the name of the expression
2) replace line 2 with EXPRESSION
3) rename the files with the name.instance of the expression
4) add that name as an entry in mibExpr.conf
5) replace the last line of the bang file with just the interface index
number (the last number)
This is clearly not a reasonable approach.
I don't know if it ever worked before, but I have read that some changes
were made
to smconvert recently because the output was not working with xnmgraph. We
may
be stuck here. I have advised the customer to call Support, but I was
wondering if
anyone else had already gone down this path. They want to be able to
collect
expressions using distributed MLMs, rather than just form snmpCollect
(which works fine),
and store and use that data in the TDS guides. Maybe we need a TSD Guide
for MLM
directly, rather than torturing the data to pull it through Netview.

Cordially,

Thanks Leslie! And when I check, the DEFAULT! is to use the same file for
traps and collection data!!!
