The thing most people want, that is, a separate control desk
with the events display on it at startup, is not something you can
do. If events is started at startup (controlled by the -Initial flag
in the registration file for the events application), then it will
automatically start the control desk. And the control desk, if
started this way, will come up attached. If events is NOT started
automatically, there will be no control desk. Then you can start
the control desk manually (from the tool bar) and it will NOT be
attached, and then you can drag the events application onto it.

I find it preferable to leave the default behavior as is and break it
off after startup. If your intent is to have no control desk or events
display (a common choice with x-emulation users), then just prevent
the automatic startup of the events app by removing the -Initial flag.
The events registration file is down a ways under the directory
/usr/OV/registration/C.

There is another option, whereby the events display runs without
the control desk, but I think having no control desk is kind of messy.
You might like it. In the app-defaults for nvevents, find the resource
of 'outside'. There are two. The one with the 'w' is for subsequent events
displays. The one without the 'w' is for the initial events display. Then
you won't get a control desk at all.

Hello all,

we're using : NetView 5.1, AIX 4.2.1, ReflectionX 6.00

When you start the NetView GUI, the Control Desk is appended by default to
the NetView window. You can then drag it out of the window, but you have
to do it at each GUI startup. So, I would like to start it in a separate
window.

I have had a look at the OVw*controlDeskHasBox parameter in the
/usr/OV/app-default/OVw file but it does not seem to help.

Does anybody know how to make this change ?

Thanks in advance for any clue,
