You will have to do all this yourself. You can "watch" the trapd.log if
you like to be notified of changes as they happen but most traps do not
contain any information about the maps that objects occur in. Traps are
about objects, not maps. Generally speaking the fourth variable of a
NetView trap often contain the object id of the object in the database,
along with other information. You'd have to go to the Admin Guide and see
what is provided in each trap you monitor, and then parse it out of the
fourth variable, and then use ovobjprint to print that object information
to be able to work your way down to a map name. Could be done, but not
easily. Otherwise you' need to build your own "node name to map"
correlation list.

All this sounds like a lot of work. What are you really trying to
accomplish? Why not just configure the traps you are worried about to
execute a script to send e-mail or an ovxecho pop-up message? Who are you
trying to notify and why? There are simple facilities provided to assist
you in this.

Subject: [NV-L] status & maps

Hello. Does anyone know of a way to detect an operational status change of
any node on any map without using the GUI? We thought about watching
trapd.log and checking for the Node Up, Node Down, Node Marginal, Interface
Up ,etc type messages.
In addition, we are challenged with maintaining multiple maps and we'd need
to detect which message in trapd.log refers to where the operational status
of a node is changing (i.e. which map). Do we have to do this by checking
device names and correlating them to different maps or is their a field in
the message which denotes this?
Thank you in advance for any comments
