Leslie,
Thanks much! I did finally draw the correlation yesterday that the 127.0.0.1
was my missing link.
Your explanation has made sense in what I am seeing. Is this in the
documentation? Thanks again!

I mess this up all the time.
You will need two entries in xnmsnmpconf: one for 127.0.0.1, and one
for the resolved name of the box. Unless of course the global default
you set in there is 'pisgah'. I figured out recently that if you put in the
127.0.0.1 and the ip address of the box, then demandpoll will try every
name in the /usr/OV/conf/communityNames.conf file, causing all sorts
of authentication errors, every time. Making an entry for the name took
care of it.
Keep in mind also that the authentication errors could be coming from
somewhere else. But you can usually tell, if you get a bunch of them
when you do a demandpoll on the management station node.
Cordially,

community pisgah
community belaying 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 readWrite
view 1.17.2 system enterprises view
trap public 127.0.0.1 1.2.3 fe # loopback
#snmpd maxpacket=1024 querytimeout=120 smuxtimeout=60
smux 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.3.1.2.1.2 gated_password # gated

smux 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.4.6 nv6000 # Tivoli NetView: mgragentd
Issue now is what do I setup in the xnmsnmpconf.

Bob -
That should be "snmpd.conf". Sorry. Who installed and configured your
NetView? Is it brand new?

AIX? Solaris? NT? It helps if you tell us (a) what platform, (b) what
release, and (c) how you determied this to be the problem.
But basically you have to match the configuration for the read community
name for snmpd (see /etc/snmp.conf on AIX for example) with what occurs in
xnmsnmpconf.

Could anyone shed some light on why I get "Incorrect Community Name" for my
NetView servers?
