If you re-did the Framework, you will now redo the NV Framework patch. Use
the one for just 6, since you are not migrating from 5. And when you
install the
Netview Server part, choose the new install, not the upgrade. It knows the
difference, and will notice the backup filesystem and merge that in. (Then
do
the books again - maybe it will go better this time - or did you already
get past
this point, in which case, never mind...)

You are confusing the heck out of me. Can you run NetView from the Tivoli
desktop or not? If you can just source the Tivoli environment and type in
"tivoli" and see your NetView box icon and get the menu by right-clicking
on it, then you don't need any addtional patches. If 6.0 was installed
correctly the first time, I wouldn't think you'd need one, but I could be
wrong.

Hi Leslie,

thanks for your answer.
As you said, i have done a migration save (OV.back.v6r0) of my NetView
6.0.2 and now i have back my NetView Server with a fresh Solaris 8 and
Framework 3.7B.
The first thing now i have to do is to install the Tivoli NetView Framework
Patch. But which one?
"Tivoli NetView Framework Patch - 6.0" or "Tivoli NetView Framework Patch
5x to6.0 Patch -- NVF-0000"?
The Release Notes sais: the first one for a fresh installation (but i have
the migration save, is it a fresh installation?) and the second one for an
upgrade installation (but i don't have to upgrade from 5.x,)

Secondly, i have to install NetView Server. I think i have to use the
"Tivoli NetView 6.0 Server Upgrade" because of the migration save, even it
is not really an upgrade (from migration save 6.0.2 to Version 6.0) Is this
correct?

Thanks for your help
joerg

If you remove and reinstall the Framework on the Netview box, the Framework
will forever have no knowledge of Netview. That means that later on, when
you
want to apply maintenance to Netview (via the Framework), you will be
stuck.
So what you ought to do is this: Follow the instructions in the Netview
Release
Notes for making a migration backup of Netview. It will create a separate
filesystem with all of the customized files, including the database. Then
deinstall
Netview, deinstall the Framework, let them do their fresh Framework
install, and
then reinstall Netview. When Netview is installed in the presence of that
backup filesystem, it understands that it is incorporate everything in that
filesystem
into the new install. This works well, but do schedule a long outage for
this.
It is not quick. And make sure you have space for the filesystem. Making it
ahead
of time is a good idea.

Subject: [NV-L] Recreate NetView Icon in Tivoli Desktop

Hi,

we are running NV 6.0.2 on Solaris 8 and Tivoli Framework 3.6.2. The
NetView server is a managed node.
Now some guys here want to install a new TMR to implement Framework 3.7B.
But they want to do a fresh installation and no upgrade!!! Discussions
impossible.
So I have some questions:
How do i get back the NetView Icon on my new Tivoli Desktop?
Is it possible to delete the managed node on the NetView server and
reinstall a new managed node without any impact on NetView?
After removing the old "3.6.2" managed node and before the installation of
the new 3.7 managed node, is it possible to work with NetView?
What do I have to do on NV side?

Thanks for your answers

Best regards,

joerg
