Check the permissions on your /etc/hosts file. When the desktop fails
to start for me, that is what is usually wrong. Tivoli needs read access
for all, or some such. Or at least for 'nobody'.

Discussion
Hi Jane,
Tivoli Environment variables are sourced and there is no error as such what
happens is that the desktop banner comes up and then disappears. The
strange thing is that oserv is running and issuing the odadmin odlist
indicates that the oserv dispatcher to be up and running on the TMR.
Yes wpatch does not seem to patch up NetView, and yes the TMR Server is
also the system where NetView is installed. Ideally I would have created a
managed node and then installed NetView on the managed node but
nevertheless this is strange.
Many thanks,
Sabi

Sabi,
I thought I had done this several times for the NetView Advanced class
but obviously not in quite the same way as yourself. What error
message do you get when you try to start the desktop? Presumably you
have got the Tivoli environment sourced?
When you say the command line doesn't work, do you mean running wpatch
with the appropriate IND parameter doesn't work? Is the oserv
running? (I assume your TMR server is also the system you are
installing NetView on?).
Cheers,
Jane

Hi all,
I have installed Tivoli 3.7RevB on AIX 4.3.3 and then NetView 6.0
on the same TMR, for training purposes, I discovered that the
Tivoli desktop fails to start if you exit the desktop. This is
annoying if you are trying to upgrade to 6.01 and then to 6.02 as
you need the Tivoli desktop to do the upgrade. The command line
does not work either.
Has anyone encountered this situation ?
The obvious solution is NOT to exit the desktop until you have
fully upgraded the NetView Server to 6.02. (Embedded image moved
