All of this is why you should put as many of your users as
possible on the web client. No refresh is necessary to see
topology changes. In V7 this interface will be even more
powerful than it is now.

Santosh,
also on read only maps the status (color) is updated automatically.
You only have to refresh the map to see changes like added, deleted or
moved symbols.
Kind regards

Sorry but no. Objects are altered in the database constantly (last poll
times, status values, etc) but their representation on the map is only
altered by ipmap. ipmap, by definition. will not alter a read-only map.
The map is smallest unit which can be refreshed (which is actually the
process of ovw telling ipmap to let go of the current map and synchronize
with a new copy).

Hi James,
Is there any option by which I can refresh only selective objects in place
of whole Map.

Refreshing the map is a GUI operation which can only be done on the box
where the map is located. It is an internal ovw function. There is no
command line mechanism to do it. If there were, then the person using
this
map would just see it suddenly go away. But suppose they were in the
middle of drilling down in it or doing some other operation, and had it
suddenly go away? Thus it is under the control of the actual operator
using the map. You can log in and kill the ovw process but you cannot
force a refresh except from the GUI. This is one of the trade-offs with
using read-only copies of the same map.

Hi,
Having NV 6.0.1 on AIX 4.3.3
I am maintaining only one Map, and Users get's read only map for access.
These read only maps needs to be refreshed for status update. Checked in
/usr/OV/registration/C/ovw, the option Refresh Map calls f.refresh_map
I had also checked that there is no such command which I can run from
command line. Can this command be run any other way from command line,
or
can I schedule for every user so that at certain set interval the read
only
map will be refreshed. Or can I add an option so that only Object can be
refreshedin place of whole Map refresh which generated additional
traffic
on N/W.

No. But if you can see your way clear to switch them to the web
client,
they can 'look at' a r/w map and will always see the updates.

Hello Everyone.
NetView 6.0.2 on AIX 4.3.3.4. NetView users access the maps with
Xwindows
thin clients (SunRays) running on a Sun server.
I recently went from a nightly backup of the NetView application to a
weekly
backup. So now the 2nd and 3rd shifts have NetView available
overnight.
The problem is that many users now have to refresh their map to
reflect
config changes or unmanaged changes. When they were forced to open
the
map every morning - the problem was eliminated.
Is there a way to automate a refresh of all the users' ReadOnly maps?
Thanks in advance.
