Hello,
thanks to all of you for the time, you invested in our problem.
The PMR was closed right at the moment, we killed ovxbeep. The ovxbeep was
called by the actionserver and still forgotten in the system, when the
actionserver endet.
In here we have a few stations on different places with open netview-maps, so I
can't say, where the ovxbeep was open. I also thought of automatation, but time
is not the criteria, I can go for. The solution for me is: Now the problem is
documented well and there is a script that can kill all ovxbeep-processes.
Thanks again
Werner

I am not stepping into the middle of an open PMR.
If you are working with Mr. Zahn, then please continue to do so.
But ovxbeep by itself opens no sockets. If lsof says that it has 1670 open,
then it would seem that it inherited that open socket because it was spawned as
a command by actionsvr. I cannot see any other way it could inherit an open
socket.
And with this response I will say no more about this issue publicly.

Hi there,
- we have lsof and other tools from the bull-site on our aix-boxes (they are
installed and obtained by ourself - my download-site was
http://www.bull.de/pub/ the original server in france (
http://freeware.bull.net/ ) is offline at the moment) and Ms. Haseneder
tryed it on the request of Mr. Zahn.
- The process hanging on port 1670 was ovxbeep (it was running for more than
a day). When it was killed, everything worked fine again.
- Afaik ovxbeep is a part of netview (doing some alarm-stuff) and not of the
AIX-System, isn't it? It might be a system-related problem and if we see
this problem again, I'll go for some more information to locate it.

lsof is not a standard part of AIX but freeware you have to obtain and
install yourself so not everyone has it or can use it in diagnosis.
So which process has the port? If there are no actionsvr processes running,
then it should be available.
If it is not, then you have another, system-related problem to solve.
Perhaps Mr. Zahn can help with that.
