"what business problem are you solving?"

The same problem that everyone is trying to solve. "How do I save money for
my company?" I am not trying to be vague, but our situation is similar to
yours, we do have operators trained in using Openview and others in Netview.
The Openview and Netview sets are exclusive, so we do not have topology
inconsistencies. I do not believe we will be performing a full migration,
but it would be nice to do all of our "fault determination" from one
console. From there have a sort of "Level II" support go into problem
resolution. you see where I am going with this. Unfortunately, our
Management deployments are quite custom, dare I say proprietary. This is
why I believe we will never be able to do a full migration from one to the
other.

It would be nice to have Openview correlate traps received from Netview as
well as be able to report node status, in some magnitude, on Netview Managed
devices. I have been doing this long enough to know I will not find a
silver bullet, but this is something I am going to address even if it turns
out to be a White Paper on why it can not be done.

Hope I answered your questions,

Jason,

You are asking how to get HP and NetView to talk....my first question
is...what business problem are you solving?

Are you looking for the Openview box to backup the NetView box? or vice
versa? Do you have automatic trouble tickets only on one server, or other
event automation? There are ways to do most anything, the question is
what level of effort does it require. If you determine the effort you must
also know the business value to make a decision about doing it.

I have worked in accounts that had both in them. From experience I can
tell you that OpenView and NetView will give you different topologies.
100% of the time that the customers complained about this, we had them
snmpwalk their devices and draw out the interfaces and networks by hand.
After a bit they saw that NetView was doing things correctly and showing
them information that OpenView was not showing them. After that fact was
documented to customer management the project became a migration project to
move the remaining networks from OpenView to NetView. OpenView was then
shutdown. OpenView operators were trained how to use NetView.

Kind regards,
