Unless I am very much mistaken, you should get the same traps from netmon
whether he is polling the device solely by SNMP or by ICMP.
There is no special "Node polled by SNMP did not respond" trap. This
condition would be noted by "Node Down" or "Router Down", as appropriate,
and where the node is a router, that should trigger RFI, and so on. I
don't think it makes a difference at all.

I have read the Administrator's manuals, and I am a little unclear on
something - If I am doing SNMP polling for status of devices, what traps
will netmon generate for an unreachable device, and what trap when a
device
is reachable again? I have looked, and other than taking down elements to
see what happens (something frowned upon in the production world!) I am
hoping that someone out there knows this!

Thanks,

Brian
