Carlos,

this has nothing to do with NV_NETMON_IGNORE_RESP_SNMPADDR

See:

DCF Document ID: 1016229 - IBM Tivoli NetView: "HostA reported different
Link Address than obtained from hostb.com by SNMP" message received in the
trapd.log file.
Problem Desc: "HostA reported different Link Address than obtained from
hostb.com by SNMP" message received in the trapd.log file.

Solution: This message could mean several things:

o One device has taken the IP address of another.

o An interface card has been swapped out but the neighboring devices have
old information in the arp caches.

o The greatest number of entries happen when a network has a mix of
Ethernet and token ring interfaces. The MAC addresses from the two types of
interfaces come back in a different form from each other. If that is the
case, turn this off from the serversetup or smitty and click on the "Ignore
source route bit in Physical Address" and change to Yes. This is in the
configuration for the netmon deamon.

Problem Desc: " N reported different link address than obtained from by
SNMP" event appears in the NetView event console.

Solution: CAUSE: This message indicates the MAC address that NetView
discovered from ICMP responses and/or ARP tables does not agree with the
MAC address reported by the SNMP agent on the device. This can happen if
Cisco switches report MAC addresses of all zeros in the MIB.

SOLUTION: Go into serversetup, and change the netmon setting for "Ignore
source route bit in physical address" to "yes".

Hello List:

Netview is reporting a lot of messages like this:

......reported different Link Address than obtained from......by SNMP

I have set the variable NV_NETMON_IGNORE_RESP_SNMPADDR=TRUE in netmon.conf
file, I have stoped and started netmon, but I'm still receiving the
messages.

Is there something that I'm missing???

NV 7.1.3
AIX 4.3.3

Thanks. Regards.
Saludos.

Carlos Enriquez
