Scott,
I stand corrected. I haven't used that option and didn't know it even existed.
I configured a new Role and selected the Enable Scoping in the event browser option. It worked fine.

One unexpected issue is that the SNMP Address change trap (58982419) appears to be internally defined to trapd and not available to the web event viewer.
On the console events display the message is SNMP Address change.......
On the web event display (Trap found with no known format).
Very nice......

Best regards,
Don

"All logical objects, (networks and segments) and physical devices (Routers, nodes, interfaces) beneath a particular scope's set of root locations and networks are treated as in scope and available for view in the submap explorer as well as for performing actions against in diagnostics, object peroperties, mib browser and event browser."

Event browser (if role is configured to filter this)

Events for out-of-scope nodes will not be displayed. See "Creating a new role" on page 38 for more information about scoping in the event browser"

page 38

3. If you want this role to use scoping in the event browser select enable scoping in the event browser check box.

I don't have time to test this but if memory serves me correctly, enabling that check box turns off the event browser entirely. Sounds to me like it should work.

OK guys, you made me look it up .... novell concept eh....

This is copy/pasted right out of the Web Console Users Guide:  Chapter 6 - Page 43

Like I said before, you have to create a ruleset to restrict events.

=========================================

Understanding Events

The Tivoli NetView program uses the following types of events:

Map events

Notifications issued when a user or application does something that affects

the status of the current map or of the Tivoli NetView graphical interface.

For example, if you add a connection between a workstation and a server

on a submap, an event is generated and logged in the event log file. The

contents of the submap change to include the added connection.

Network events

Messages sent by an agent to one or more managers to tell them an event

has occurred that affects a network object. These events are not

necessarily reflected in the map. For example, if an SNMP agent is not in

your management region, but is configured to send traps to the manager,

you receive events for that agent, even though the agent is not displayed

on your map.

Tivoli NetView

Internal events are messages generated by Tivoli NetView applications.

I would make sense for it to work that way.  Why would a user want to see his screen filled with unrelated events?

Any comments from Tivoli support on this forum?

They are supposed to be tied together.

Herman,
I believe you need to write a ruleset and apply it for that user to limit the events display.
I don't believe map scope and the events subsystem are related.

Leslie,

When I set up a user on the Web Console with a specific Scope and Role.
Shouldn't he be seeing only events related to his scope? (ej Access
Points).

I have a user that has a map for his wireless access points, but he is
not interested in seeing events that are not related to his scope.

I think I asked this before, so just a refresher.

Thank you,
