Trapd on UNIX can and does understand SNMP V2 traps, whether you have loaded any MIBs or not.

I see the problem with mib2trap.  Can you load this Alcaltel MIB with xnmloadmib2?
If so, then the problem is that it requires a predecessor MIB to complete its definitions.  mib2trap only works on files, one MIB at time if you will, and knows nothing about what's in the MIB database.  So if there is a predecessor MIB missing, you have to look at the IMPORTS section of the MIB and identify what it is.  You will probably see the textual convention in question,  SnmpAdminString, listed.  You then need to get the MIB where that is defined and concatenate  the Chassis MIB to it, so that they form one big file.  Then use that as input to mib2trap.

using the AlcatelIND1Chassis.mib When doing a mib2trap I receive the following error

CMD:   mib2trap AlcatelIND1Chassis.mib A_Chassis.trap

        Errors - no script generated.

Textual convention doesn't map to real type.(SnmpAdminString): On or around line 756

Bad parse of ASN type definition(::=).: On or around line 756

I checked spelling and every portion of the MIb I could think of the section directly above that line parses out fine and is almost I dentical in nature.

I guess my confusion lies in that I did not think that trapd could understand snmpV2 traps?  Maybe I misunderstood.  I thought that is where the trouble of when I use a xnmloadmib2 and then try to run mib2trap it does nto add anything to the xnmtrap configuration.

Thanks

Chris Petrina
