No, those issues are still there, but they don't apply to your problem.

When trapd formats a MIB OID, from dotted decimal to word format (e.g. from .1.3.1 to "iso.org.dod") he has to check a MIB database to do that.  The one he checks is the SNMP V1 database created by xnmloadmib.  When he cannot find the entry he''s looking for in that database, then he formats what he can and leaves the rest in dotted decimal; e.g. iso.org.dod.ineternet.private enterprises.9999.1.2.3, or some such.

It would make more sense for trapd on UNIX to read the MIB database created by xnmloadmib2, because he does understand V2 traps, but this enhancement has not been realized to date.   Most of the time this limitation is transparent to the user, because most people format the contents of the trap, not the MIB OID that describes it.

There are ways around the problem but they are clumsy.  One is to load a V1 version of the MIB with xnmloadmib.  Another is to create a dummy MIB with just what you need to format the trap you want to see and load that.  Not elegant to be sure.

Don't be discouraged by your mib2trap problem.  If you still can't get it, notify support and they'll help.

Cool,

I understand how the heirarchy works in mib laoding meaning that I must load  in specific order based on the Import files.  Easy enough

I guess the reason for my misunderstanding is here on the listserver I searched for xnmloadmib2 and found a bunch of archived ones about xnmloadmib2 and how netview is only tied to the V1 browser.

but then again perhaps those issues have been fixed since then.  They were back in 2000 that i saw them.

Thanks

Chris
