The reason I am looking for this, is that our NV box has no graphics card and no monitor (UNIX). Anything I need to do as the administrator of unix I have to open a X window session into the box. I am not too concerned with the web console users being able to manage/unmanage because we have taken away that right from them. Unmanaged got to be too messy and was not properly implemented. My issue is that everytime I start the xwindow client and issue a netview -dconsole it interupts the web console users and they have to re open the map. Same thing happens when I close the GUI it will interput their web console useage until the netviewd starts running again. Other then building a second map for only the Web console users to view I was curious if there was another way? Thanks Chris Petrina
Yes, look in the NetView for UNIX Administrator's Reference under NETVIEWD for the details on starting Read-only sessions NETVIEWD sessions. The function isn't available under the Windows version. Personally, I wouldn't want to do that. Read-only maps do not automatically display information such as changes to and from the MANAGED state or the addition of new nodes to the map. The RO map user must refresh his map to get these changes. The native console user of the RO map also is unable to do any maintenance of the map or manage/unmanage nodes. The web console user of the RO map is unable to manage/unmanage nodes. The truth of the matter is that you can't have your web console users enjoy uninterrupted connections and see the addition of new nodes and the other changes which take place automatically only on RW maps. Web console administrators also don't have full function. Bill Evans
