James i came from another company and the Tivoli
Systems already were installed here. Im configuring all Tivoli
software here, one by one. Now i´ve started to custumise the Netview
and i noticed that the netmon do not start. This is not a new installation
and i don´t know when the netview stop to work or if it was working fine before.
On this machine runs some critical software for the company (really they
built a wrong architecture for the Tivoli servers, and i will describe later)
and is very difficult to stop some applications for debug netview. I understood
your recommendation about call the support but as you see i have some problems
because they put a lot o programs just in one machine, i know that this is not
recommended but they did.
Machine configuration
Software
Windows 2000 SP4
Netview 7.1.3
Managed Node
TSM 5.1.5
DB2 EE
TEC 3.8
Symantec EE (Mangens about 5000 Norton
clients)
Hardware
4 GB RAM
4 Xeon 700Mhz
Raid 5 Disk Array
Thanks in advance
Demis

I'm not trying to suggest that you shouldn't seek help. But if I thought
some other user had seen this before, or that there was an easy answer, I
wouldn't have sent you to Support. The error message you mentioned, "cannot
open icmp socket" is not a common one, and should not occur on a properly
configured system. But you say you have rebooted several times, and yet when
you start netmon with ovstart or the nvsetup GUI , you still get the "cannot
open icmp socket" message? Correct?
Let's back up and get some history
here. This is not a new installation, is it? You have had NetView running for
some time, and then suddenly you started getting this message? Have you
installed other software after NetView? Have you tried using the Task Manager
to stop other programs to see whether something else has the socket netmon is
requesting? Basically, that's the issue. It's getting a bad return code from
the Windows OS trying to do a socket call. But why that should be, I haven't
any idea.

| Yes i told about the memory problem for the support. I already
rebooted the machine, i already use the trace and read all logs from the
/usr/ov/logs. Answering you question, i expect that someone in this group have
already had this problem and got to fix it. That´s why i posted more one
information!

[nv-l] Re: [nv-l] Netmon doesn ´t start
That's not a valid test. That will happen on any Windows
system, even one where netmon starts normally. The OVsInitComplete fails because the process was not
started by ovspmd, the process which normally starts all the daemons by the
command "ovstart". If ovspmd does not the start the daemon but you do instead,
then there is no connection between them and the OVsInitComplete fails as a result.
I'm not
certain what you expect to gain by posting this here. If you have rebooted and
netmon still fails to start, then it is unlikely that another user can help
you. That's why I sent you to Support. You said you were having some
unspecified sort of memory problems with this box before the trouble started.
Did you tell Support about those?

I made some snmp get in my snmp and it returns positive results to
me. Yesterday we have problems of memory with this server, and today the
netmon doesn´t start. Very strange this situation, but i will call the IBM
Support.
tks!

Netmon doesn ´t start
Reboot. If that doesn't work, call Support.
If my
memory serves me, that would mean that netmon is trying to open the socket
reserved for him in <windows_path>/etc/services, and Windows won't do
it, giving him a bad return code. So netmon cannot communicate with
anyone.
How do you know your SNMP works fine?
