Well, if the OEM product were sending traps to the Netview server, you would see them in /usr/OV/log/trapd.log whether you had done any of that prep work or not. Those steps are all about formatting them for viewing, not about receiving them. So you are all set for when they do arrive. Keep in mind, also, that while traps can contain community strings, Netview does not pay any attention to them. So don't configure your sending system to use anything secret, since it may be viewed or logged. I like public for traps. There are tons of answers on this subject in the archives of this listserver, mostly from James Shanks. Check this site for good advice: http://lists.skills-1st.co.uk/mharc/html/nv-l/ This is not my area of expertise, but I am up late tonight, so here's a thought: The traps are received by the trapd daemon. Check the daemon configuration in serversetup to verify the port it is listening on, then check with your sending system to see what port they are sending to. As for the mib browser response, that indicates that the server you are querying is not running an SNMP agent, or subagent, that is capable of answering questions under the Oracle enterprise, although it would seem that the base OS snmp agent is running, and can aswer with that information at least. That does not mean that the system is not capable of sending traps, only that it cannot answer questions. But I would sure look into that on the OEM server. Cordially, Leslie A. Hello All, Our DBAs are trying to send traps from the OEM product to NetView. I've loaded the MIBs with the Web Console MIB Loader, run mib2trap and executed the script. All appeared to work well. I've also verified our community name in the product configuration and snmpd.conf. Needless to say, no traps are arriving. Using the Web Console MIB Browser, I can query the base MIB. However, the enterprise.oracle section returns "Not Supported". I'd like to dig a little deeper into the "Not Supported" response and also see if the traps are actually being sent. I don't see anything in trapd.log to indicate that they are. Have I forgotten something? Can someone suggest the next step in sorting this out? Thanks.
