Because nvmail is a NetView for Windows-only facility, and the person who
asked about SMS is on AIX, where that command does not exist.
It is vitally important to make certain when you ask questions of give
advice that you specify the OS platform. The NetView for Windows and
NetView for UNIX products are different products and not all functions work
the same way.

James,
If sms via email is an option then why can't we use the 'nvmail' program.
Regds,
Usman!

By SMS you mean a text message to a cell phone?
If you have an e-mail address that you can send your message to, which will
forward it to a cell phone, then you can use the sendmail command as Paul
said. But if you don't then you'll need third-party software to do this.
For example, see http://www.crosscom.com and their paging product, called
Hiplink.
They even cite NetView as an often-used platform.
I have also heard that there is freeware on the web somewhere to do this
as well.
In any case, you would install it and then write a script to call that
product out of automatic action or from a ruleset.
