NetView can display maps that contain nodes discovered by an MLM. However, the MLM itself gives you no display capability. An MLM can also only discover nodes on it's own IP network so if your client has a single network then the MLM discovery should work fine but if he has more than one network then you will need an MLM per network. If there are firewalls between you and your customer, you need both ping and SNMP access through the firewall. Although MLM can discover networks, NetView only "believes" info from MLM when he has got at least one ping though to an MLM-discovered node.

I think people have tried putting more than one NIC card in an MLM to monitor several networks but my impression is that no-one has got this to work reliably - not tried it personally.

Cheers,
Jane

Hi,

I just need to know, can NetView create IP maps based upon the info forwarded by MLMs. The scenario is we want to monitor a clients network using NetView, can i just put the MLM there or do i need to connect NV directly to that network?
