I just did some checking in the docs on what it says about this. In case it helps clarify, according to the Administrator's Guide, what this is doing is managing (not activating) the SmartSet. Depending on what you're doing, the end result should be pretty much the same though.
To activate a SmartSet, you just need to go into (or open) it with the NetView standard interface (GUI on Unix and I think the console on Windows). Regards, Greg Keetch IT Specialist (Advisor), Network Services Network Management Tools Specialist Information Technology Services Americas (ITSA), Global Services, IBM Canada "Kain, Becki \(B.\)" <bkain1@ford.com>
activated? that seems to be the issue, I was creating new smart sets and seeing nothing in in them. So how do I acitvate? (reminds me of the old cartoon "wonder twin powers - activate! shape of the internet!") SmartSets are dynamic collections, so rules that are running will see all additions/removals from a SmartSet as they occur.
do you need to restart nvcorrd if you use the smartset editor to do that? thanks! Nodes don't have a field 'IP Address'. That's an attribute of an interface. So you are getting a list of Selection Names of interfaces or Networks. Nodes do have a field called 'SNMP ipAddress'. I tried making a smartset based on ip's: nvUtil e '("IP Address" ~ "19.39.*.*")' But the results that I get are not nodes but something else: How do I make a smartset, based on a range of ip's, AND get actual nodes in it? Thanks in advance
