Since using the default IP Internet map is out of the question a custom map
and direct control of the icon's displayted status is the only way to go.

What you do on your map or even your own submap is your business.
I thought we were talking about the IP Internet map and the standard
objects
NetView populates the screen with.
But yes, you can create your own objects and populate your own maps or
submaps
with them, and set the status on them however you like. There are vendor
applications which do this but it is not a trivial exercise.

What about creating a map using C code and placing icons in it using
AddSymbolByHostname or something. Set the symbol status manually dependent
upon received events,

I couldn't be more puzzled by this query.

Removing or clearing events from the event display does not alter the
status on
the map at all. The map icons stay the color they were set by ipmap when
netmon
first sent the trap. You cannot acknowledge things on the map by doing
anything
in the events window (unless some has written some very sophisticated user
code
in your shop). So I am not at all clear about what you are asking.

Are you asking that ipmap NOT change things back to green/up even after
netmon
has determined that they are?
Sorry but that is an impossibility in current code. That would require a
design change so huge, I shudder to think about it
You may, of course, make your feelings known about why you want such a
change,
and what benefit it would be, by sending a note to netview@tivoli.com.

I am not sure if this can be done, but when a critical event occurs and is
then cleared, we would like the device icon to stay red and not change
until
acknowledged. An example of this could be a device going down for a short
period, so the device icon changes to red then back to green.

Any ideas?
Thanks
