I don't know how to help you get haview working, since I don't have it or know
how it works, but you could disable it temporarily until AIX gets it fixed.

First, how many are running and who started them? Do "ps -ef " and save the
output so you can browse it to determine that. That will show you the parent
process id (PPID) of haview. Does that number correspond to the process id for
ovspmd? Then haview is a daemon. Does it correspond to an ovw? Then haview is
started by a registration file out of the NetView GUI. If neither of these is
true, then I can't help you and you should skip what follows, though you might
check to see if haview is started out of inittab, and if so, disable it there.
I'm assuming that it is probably either a daemon or a process started out of the
NetView registration files, since most add-ons are one or the other.

If it is a daemon, then try "ovstop haview" and see if it will stop. If it
is not a daemon, then " cd /usr/OV/registration/C " and then " rgrep haview
* ". If it is a GUI-process, started when the NetView GUI comes up, you should
find an entry here, similar to this:
     Command -Initial -Shared -Restart " . . . haview "

Make a copy of the file this is in and place it in some other directory instead
of /usr/OV/registration/C. NetView treats all files in the
/usr/OV/registration/C directory tree as registration files, so leaving a
backup copy here will defeat the purpose of making changes in the file. So move
your backup copy somewhere else.

Then edit the registration file. If you comment out the line with the
Command entry in it, by placing the entire line between /* and */ ( as in
C), then the next time you start the GUI, haview won't start again once the
NetView GUI is brought down and back up. If there -Initial flag is there, you
can just remove it to get the same effect. If the -Restart flag is there, then
you can remove that and it will start only once, but not be restarted if you
kill it. You decide what you want to do here.

Then take down all NetView GUIs. If the haview process doesn't go away in two
minutes, then kill it. Once it is gone, you should be able to bring the NetView
GUI back up, and not have an haview running if you have commented it out.

Hope this helps

Hello Leslie,
Sorry for my english i didn't explain myself well.
My netview server isn't in hacmp, but others in the environment are.

I have to discover almost 30 servers in hacmp mode and show them with the hacmp
icons. In order to do so, netview uses a
process named haview and that process uses 95% of cpu, almost constantly.

I called AIX support and I'm waiting their answer but, in the meantime, if
you've heard of the same problem and could help me, I would be very grateful as
the netview server is almost stuck at the moment.
thanks in advance
