NetView is provided with two separate MIB Browsers. The "MIB Browser ->
SNMP....." option browses the snmpmib.bin file (SNMPv1 MIBs only). The "MIB
Browser -> SNMPv1/SNMPv2..." option browses a completely separate MIB tree,
the snmpv2mib.bin file which supports both SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 MIBs.
Consequently there are two separate MIB Loaders, each pointing to the
appropriate MIB tree, snmpmib or snmpv2mib.
You can choose to load both SNMPv1 and v2 MIBs into snmpv2mib tree with the
SNMPv2 Loader and thus browse these MIBs with the SNMPv1/SNMPv2 Browser.
However, with the exception of loading and browsing of these MIBs, NetView
doesn't use this MIB tree for anything else. For example, snmpCollect uses
the SNMPv1 MIBs loaded in the snmpmib.bin file. snmpCollect does not look
at the snmpv2mib.bin file and so will not see either the SNMPv1 or SNMPv2
MIBs loaded in this tree. Others like netmon and trapd would also only use
SNMPv1 loaded MIBs (in the snmpmib.bin file). There may be exceptions to
this rule and you would need to check with Tivoli Support to see if any of
these exceptions were supported.
As for your problem using the the SNMPv1/SNMPv2 browser with your PIX
firewall device - What MIB are you trying to browse? Is it a v1 or v2 MIB
? At what point is the browser dying ? What do you mean by "dies" ? What
version of NetView are you using and what OS ? Have you tried to browse
other MIB variables ? Have you tried the v1/v2 Browser with other devices
who's agent you know support the MIB variable you are requesting info on ?

Subject: [NV-L] Re: SNMPv1/SNMPv2
Ok, but if NetView doesn't ever use SNMPv2 and only SNMPv1, what are the to
options "MIB Browser -> SNMP....." and "MIB Browser -> SNMPv1/SNMPv2...",
in the NetVIew Tools menu?
I have a device (PIX firewall) on a clients network, wich works fine to
browse with the first one, but if I do it the SNMPv1/SNMPv2 way, the MIB
Browser window just dies, and thats it. I also tried to browse via the
web-clieent (Swing) and then there are only one option (should be SNMPv1
then), wich works fine.
