You should be able to prevent the mibserver from starting by de-registering
it and this should completely disable mib browsing. Users probably can't
browse the devices if they don't know the community name unless the default
of public is being used for all your devices.

Subject: Re: [NV-L] Web Client required to be Read Only
Leslie,
I have heard the web client allows for MIB browsing of devices regardless
of the three types of accounts that can be set. I do not want the ability
of someone to browse MIBs of devices appearing on any map, I kind of view
this as a "write" type of activity. Is there a way to turn this ability
off using webclient? Thank you, I am interested in your comments.

Subject: Re: [NV-L] Web Client required to be Read Only
Cliff, what exactly are you afraid they will do? Perhaps you have more
than one map, or more than one copy of the map up, and web client users
are being presented with a list of them to choose from, and one or more
is listed as being r/w? And you are concerned that if they pick a r/w one
that they will have r/w access to the map? If that is what you are
thinking,
then rest assured that that is not what it means. It only means that they
will be looking at a map that someone else has up r/w. Which is a good
thing, since they will see topology changes dynamically, and changes
in membership of Smartset dynamically.
The only write-type function they have is Acknowledge. And of couse
they have to authenticate to get in. There is debate about the wisdom
of allowing everyone to Acknowledge, but at this point we cannot
stop them.
Cordially,

Subject: [NV-L] Web Client required to be Read Only
Dear Group,
I have implemented the Web Client a while ago on Netview 6 (both NT and
Unix), but inorder to roll it out proberly I would like it to only be
availalbe Read Only, as I don't trust the people that I am rolling it out
to.
Is there any way of limiting access of the web client to prevent anyone
making changes.
