Thanks
for the help. I moving them into ESE.automation makes sense to
me.

But if ever you have more than one copy of a ruleset running with those actions in it, you will get duplicate events. The copy in tecint.conf being run by nvserverd is generating them and so is the copy you opened in a dynamic workspace. It doesn't matter who runs the ruleset, each copy causes yet another instance of the command being sent to actionsvr. Usually however, people do use a ruleset without a Forward in ESE.automation to generate their own events, and a different one in tecint.conf to forward them to TEC, to keep the functions logically separate, but you can do whatever makes the most sense for your environment. Yes, it is being used in tecint.conf as well. This is the only place in the ruleset that I end by generating my own events....hmmm... So it will probably be better to take this section and move it into a background ruleset to be run in ESE.automation? -----Original Message----- From: James Shanks [mailto:jshanks@us.ibm.com] Sent: Monday, January 28, 2002 3:10 PM To: nv-l@lists.tivoli.com Subject: Re: [nv-l] Duplicated events generated from ruleset Are you running the ruleset out of ESE.automation as well? Or in tecint.conf? Every copy of it is going to execute the actions. James Shanks Level 3 Support for Tivoli NetView for UNIX and NT Tivoli Software / IBM Software Group
Hi. I'm running 6.0.2 on AIX 4.3.3. I have a section of my ruleset that looks like this: IBM_NVNDWN_EV --> Inline Action (ping node, RC=1 if doesn't respond) --> Query Smartset (pass if in Smartset) --> Action (generate event 1001) IBM_NVNUP_EV --> Query Smartset (pass if in Smartset) --> Action (generate event 1002) This ruleset is used to forward events to T/EC. If I have only the Events display loaded, it appears to work fine. However, if I have the ruleset loaded as a dynamic workspace, then I get one node down/up, but two of the 1001/1002. So... Instead of: Interface_Down --> Node_Down --> 1001 Interface_Up --> Node_Up --> 1002 I get: Interface_Down --> Node_Down --> 1001,1001 Interface_Up --> Node_Up --> 1002,1002 I am totally confused by this and am hoping somebody can enlighten me as to what is going on.
