John,
"Can't receive event from Cisco switch" is only valid statement if you know
for fact that the switch is sending out SNMP Traps that you are looking for.
Put a sniffer on the interface/module and see if the switch is actually
sending out traps to begin with.
If the switch is NOT sending any traps out, then check the syslog in the
switch or have the switch forward syslog to another server for you to view.
Keep in mind that not all events/alarms are SNMP Traps.
