Anupam,
When you performed your xnmsnmpconf -resolve, you did it against the IP address.  Since everything else was run against the name, and your problem is with the name used as the target, verify that it gives the same information when run against the BBRT name..

    Best of luck,

Hi,

i would try following:

/usr/OV/bin/nmdemandpoll "selection-name" to see if a config poll is
working
/usr/OV/bin/quicktest "selection-name" to see if status poll is working

to get the Selection-Name used in netview, i recommend to use

/usr/OV/bin/ovtopodump -r "ip address from the router" - the output will be
the "Selection-Name where the Ip-address is
attached to.

also useful:

/usr/OV/bin/xnmsnmpconf -resolv "ip-address" -> shows what netview will use
for polling.

Check if you use the "alternative Community file" also for polling ?
(config in serversetup).

Personaly i don't use the "alternative Community file at all - because it
adds single entries to the snmp configuration. And
i prefere the Wildcarding in the snmp configuration.

Hello Robin,

I have run "xnmsnmpconf -clearCache" as root. But the problem is still
there.

I also deleated all entry from "option->snmp configuration" menu for all
routers. Then restarted NetView map. Some routers have appeared in the
"snmp configuration" menu. But the problem is still there.

In trapd.log, following syntax is appearing as errorr :-

Are these error related to some other aothentication failure. As it is clear from the following log, authAddr is 10.88.13.45. This IP we have not defined as trap destination in our routers.

xnmsnmpconf is the application run when you select Options->SNMP
Configuration. You say the window shows a community name compatible
with your routers. There is one thing I suggest you try. Run the
command "xnmsnmpconf -clearcache" as root. Netview maintains a cache
for IP addresses and SNMP parameters and the cache probably has all
your old settings. See "man xnmsnmpconf" for a fuller description
about what this option does. You could also do a "-dumpcache
-verbose" to confirm this before you clear the cache.

      Good luck
      Robin

      Hello,

Under "option->snmp configuration" menu, almost all the routers are
showing correct "community name" as defined. All these community name
is also defined in "communityNames.conf" file. Also, I am able to do
demand poll for all these routers through GUI.

After disabling "public" community name, I have not run xnmsnmpconf.
What is the correct syntax to run xnmsnmpconf for all the routers.

You must also configure the netview polling to use one of these
new community names. Have you run xnmsnmpconf to use one of the
new ones, if not, it is probably still using public?

            Hello Everybody,

We are having NetView 6.0.2 on AIX 4.3.3

We have defined six different community names in
"communityNames.conf" file under /usr/OV/conf directory for our
routers. Each routers have been configured to send SNMP trapd
            to two AIX boxes(production+lab).

Recently, we started getting the following errors in our

These errors were not coming earlier. But now are coming for
almost all the routers. Probably, network administrators have
removed public community name from all these routers. I
suppose, public community name is not mandatory?

Then what could be the reason for these errors and where this
            could impact?

            Regards,
            Anupam
