Thanks for the advice.  I think I'll end up on the ovobjprint route
filtering on isXXXXX attributes.  The slightly sticky side of what I
need to do is that it has to work (or be similar) on Netview and NNM
(not my choice!) - I want to avoid two totally different scripts.

I don't need huge amounts of data right now - what I can see from
ovobjprint looks like enough to satisfy the requirement & the elements
are common between the two.

Hi Karl,
Have you discarded the nvdbformat utility for some reason?  I use this 
in scripts sometimes - one of the things we have looked at is using 
nvdbformat to analyse an existing NetView object database to produce an 
ASCII file which can be used to create a DNS.  nvdbformat can produce 
either ASCII text or html output - there are sample files provided to 
get you started.  I've thrown away my "2 awk's 3 sed's and a grep" 
ovobjprint scripts since they introduced nvdbformat.
