Following Jeff's idea, it might be easier if you created a small smartset, say for three IP addresses, using the editor in dialog mode, and then switched to text mode so that you could see the pattern of the rule (you could also do that with nvUtil). You could then follow his suggestion of cut-and-paste if you wish. Following Scott's idea, if you don't have control of the interface names, then you could create new database fields using nvbdformat, which you could then use as the attribute for a smartset. Personally, I don't see a ruleset as being much help in this is what you want to do is monitor by looking at a smartset. I have a list of very specific IP address that the NOC wants in one collection. We have already tried the approximate ~ option. For example IPAddress ~ 172.18.43 but that is bringing in to many IP addresses than I want in the collection. Any other thoughts? Maybe I can't accomplish everything in a smartset and need to run this through a ruleset? -----Original Message----- From: owner-nv-l@lists.us.ibm.com [mailto:owner-nv-l@lists.us.ibm.com] On Behalf Of James Shanks Sent: Thursday, December 04, 2003 10:59 AM To: nv-l@lists.us.ibm.com Subject: Re: [nv-l] Smartset I don't see the problem. You use the editor. Type "collectioned" from the command line, select "Add", then "Modify" the first rule, and go from there, The Attribute would be "IP Address". James Shanks
Run the "collectioned" as James stated and select the TEXT button at the bottom where you can enter all the IPs you need in the correct syntax. Build the rule in text editor first and paste it in box. Jeff Fitzwater
