I don't know squat about ssh and all that, but you might try just editing the /usr/OV/bin/netview script  and removing the X11R5 inclusion and see whether you can get this to work.   Try it on native AIX first of course.

Here's the place where it is included:

# 43130 ovw hangs with X11R6 lib
# Put /usr/OV/lib in $LIBPATH since AIX java takes /usr/lib out
export LIBPATH=/usr/lpp/X11/lib/R5:/usr/lpp/X11/lib/R6/Motif2.1:$LIBPATH:/usr/OV/lib

Now I did a quick look-up and  defect 43140 goes back to Version 5.1 and was opened internally by Verification in 1998 because, at that time, when they tried to start NetView with just X11R6, it hung and the nvevents window never appeared.  The solution at that time was to not use R6, as we could not get AIX to take a defect on it and we could not hold up shipment while waiting fro them to figure out that it really was broken.  But it is very possible that the R6 bug which caused the problem then has now been fixed.  I tried making that line say just

export LIBPATH=/usr/lpp/X11/lib/R6/Motif2.1:$LIBPATH:/usr/OV/lib

And I can start the GUI just fine, though my box is only AIX 4.3.3 ML10 and NetView 7.1.3 FP2.

Now this may not be the only place where R5 is specified ahead of R6, but it's worth an experiment, don't you think?

And I would say that if this solves the problem, then you might want to call Support back and tell them about it so that the feedback can be escalated to the right people.  The issue about what is and what is not a supported configuration usually depends upon what has been tested and who has been given a mandate and resources to do that testing.  NetView has been given neither for ssh testing.

Re: [nv-l] ssh and Netview on AIX 5.1

I have had problem with Netview and SSH on AIX since the Open ssh server
implementation changed with version 3.1. The tunnel is now with the
loopback address of the server and since then all X11 R5 application
(including Netview) stopped working (except some time when allowing remote
login for root). Other application (xterm ...) are working fine as they use
X11 R6. This is documented in the FAQ on open ssh web site.
I tried to get some help from IBM support but after some time they finally
told me they could not help further and that Netview with SSH is not a
supported configuration.

Does anyone use this combination? Would you like to share you expertise on
the required configuration? Do you have any special problems? They are
getting ready to take away telnet at this particular site and try to use
ssh and tunneling. Makes me nervous.... Thanks.
