Just catching up on this thread having been away for 3 weeks, but here's
my 2 pennorth...
I've been using ssh on AIX 5.1 for at least 6 months now. I grabbed
openssh 3.7.1 from the Bull site and it works a treat for me. I've
given up running X Server software and now use VNC (again there's a
version for AIX on the Bull site) which I tunnel through ssh.
Performance is dramatically better and you have the advantage that you
can break the link between client and server and when you reconnect,
everything is exactly as you left it. I'm using PuTTY on PCs for the ssh.
We needed to do testing for a client who wanted to run a NetView GUI
(full thing, not web client) over dial-up. Using ssh and VNC this was
definitely useable over standard modem speeds - not startling, but
definitely possible.
Cheers,
Jane
