You may want to check NetView Solaris server and determine if maybe some other service is using prt 8080, netstat or lsof commands should help here. Also is there a possible firewall someplace between XP GUI and NetView on Solaris, that is blocking port 8080? Using "serversetup" under Configure > Configure Web Server > Enable Web Deamons How is the web server configured? yes, 8080, no, 8443, yes, yes? The only change here from default, is that netviewd deamon is set to yes. Also try adding a completely new web console user, password, using one of the default roles and a default open scope. Once you have saved the new user information, stop and restart the web server deamon. Using "serversetup" under Control > Select daemons to stop or restart > Select Web Server deamon(s) to stop or restart Also check to make user the user are getting added to configuration files in /usr/OV/www/conf, specifically NetViewRealm.properties and maybe NetViewRealm.xml NetViewRealm.properties should look something like this; # **************************************************** # *** Created by: Web Console Security - Tivoli NetView # *** Feb 10, 2005 4:58:57 PM # **************************************************** tester5 : setofsomecharacters, User; ANY tester4 : setofsomecharacters, Operator; ANY tester3 : setofsomecharacters, SuperUser; ANY tester2 : setofsomecharacters, Administrator; ANY tester1 : setofsomecharacters, Administrator; ANY tester6 : setofsomecharacters, User; ANY NetViewRealm.xml should look like this if you have added the expiration of user id feature; <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <NetViewRealm validFor="18" expireWarning="5" dateFormat="yyyyMMdd"> <Account name="tester5" since="20050210" /> <Account name="tester4" since="20050210" /> <Account name="tester3" since="20050210" /> <Account name="tester2" since="20050210" /> <Account name="tester1" since="20050210" /> <Account name="tester6" since="20050210" /> </NetViewRealm> Mark F Sklenarik IBM SWG Tivoli Solutions Quality Assurance Business Impact Management and Event Correlation Software Quality Engineer 919-224-1127 or tl-687-1127 marksk@us.lbm.com
Glen/Leslie, You are correct initially it is filled in with the hostname of my workstation. That was my first though also. I have changed it to the hostname and then to the IP of the NV server just to make sure. In the error message the real “hostname” or IP, whichever I put in the hostname field of the log on screen, is in the place of hostname below. If by installing the web console client you mean installing from the /usr/OV/www/wwwroot/download/nvwinstall.exe that is what I have installed now. I did get the installer after I upgraded to FP3 so the versions should be good. I appreciate your help. Does it perhaps say, instead of hostname, the name of our PC? Every single customer that I have walked through this has neglected to specify the name of the Netview server in that authentication box. When first installed, it is filled with the name of your PC. Just thought I'd ask. Cordially, Leslie A. Clark IBM Global Services - Systems Mgmt & Networking (248) 552-4968 Voicemail, Fax, Pager
I've had the same problem and my work around was to install the web console client. Doing so allowed me to work fine - just that it was outside of my standard browser. Be aware though, I think there are specific versions of this client that should be sync'd with the version of the fixpack you are running. We are using NV 7.1.4 FP3 on a Solaris 9 O/S. I go through the Server Setup and enable all of the Web Console Daemons as well as set up users in the Configure Web Console Security area. I then install the client on a WinXP workstation and try to connect. Needless to say the connection fails with the following error: Cannot connect to the Web Server at hostname:8080 Contact the administrator. I run a “ps –ef | grep jetty.sh” and receive the following information: root 9671 7618 0 May 16 ? 0:00 /usr/OV/service/spmsur -w 15 /usr/OV/www/bin/jetty.sh I have looked in the documentation as well as searched the list archives and cannot find anything that I’m doing incorrectly. Anyone out there have any ideas as to what my problem could be? Thanks Ronnie Gill Network Operations DOIM Fort Carson, CO 719-526-1674 Walla! Mail - get your free mail today |
