Hi Jeff-

The info I have is very sketchy and not in any way official but here's what I
know...

I was at a customer recently that found out 3Com Transcend is not supported on
Solaris 2.6 period. Nothing to do with NetView.

Another customer I am working with now just had 3Com sales folks on-site and
they told them that Transcend definitely integrates with NetView V5.1 on AIX.
So, someone's not telling the right story. Maybe there are different pieces of
Transcend that do or don't integrate with NetView.

I spoke with 3Com support and they told me that even if there is no out-of-the
box integration, they provide the bitmaps, fields, oid_to_sym, etc. on the CD
that you need to do the integration yourself. My notes show it was in the
directory: /cdrom/sun5/common/any. I simply copied some stuff over from the
older NetView system and it all integrated just fine. I know it's not a
convenient, supported way of doing things but it was a painless procedure.

Hope this helps and good luck--don't give up on NetView!!

OK lets see who uses Netview 5.1 on Solaris 2.6 and wants to integrate
3COM Transcent 5.0.

According to the information in the Transcend DOC (INSTALLATION GUIDE
p18) it is "NOT" supported for Tivoli Netview at all on any platform,
and 3COM sales concur.

I clearly don't see much 3rd party support for Netview. It's up to the
users and TIVOLI to drive this issue.
Must Princeton rethink the issue of switching from HP OpenView, which
has great 3rd party support.

Please respond with your input.

Thank you all.
