Let me clear some confusion regarding 3Com's plan for NetView support.
Transcend NCS v5.0 for UNIX does not support NetView or AIX 4.3.2 right out
of the box. A patch was issued in Aug 99 for Transcend that allowed for partial
support of NetView 5.1 on AIX 4.3.2.
By the end of this year there will be another Transcend patch that will
have better integration with Netview 5.11 on AIX 4.3.2. All 3Com MIBs, Traps,
bitmaps, and symbols etc. will be automatically integrated with NetView along
with application launch point.
Additionally, this Transcend patch will provide the support for Solaris 2.6
and NNM 6.01. There are no plans to support NetView on Solaris at this time.
Transcend patch CDs can be ordered (for free) from 3Com's support website:

Hi Jeff-
I'm only trying to get you some information here... As part of the manual
integration, you could create a NetView menu registration file that calls the
3Com app when a 3Com device is selected. Of course, if there is integration
beyond these simple things like menus or icons (such as shared discovery, etc.)
those will have to wait on 3Com.

Hi Jennifer
The main issue at Princeton, is we are running on Solaris 2.6 platform
that Netview supports. You cannot fudge the integration by simply
putting the mibs, fields, and oid-to-type in place. The libraries in
Transcend are not compiled for Netview on Solaris and won't work. Sure
you can get the icons to look like 3com stuff but nothing will launch
from them.
Also as I mentioned the Installation manual tells me only OPENVIEW and
SUNNET manager are supported NOT TIVOLI NETVIEW.
