Thanks for the input.  I neglected to mention that this is AIX 4.3.

My libnvsnmp.a looks like:

-r--r--r--   1 bin      bin       330331 Jan 19 02:29 libnvsnmp.a

Is this better or worse?

I can snmpwalk the routers just fine, so I'm not sure if that helps prove 
anything.
