Actually, I didn't do a very good job of describing my situation. I will use
the field that I create and customize, to match in a rule set and then run a
script that logs events to syslog. We then have a TEC AIX syslog adapter
that matches the format of the message and processes the events from there.
The issue is we have so many sub-groupings, that we need more granularity in
our descriptions. For example, we have several different types of Dell
servers running Winnt 4.0 server. The servers have many different functions,
and different groups that are responsible for them. If I can build or
customize a new field, I can get more descriptive and therefore create
different smartsets for processing. Or even better...if I could somehow
capture what was in that field, I could pass it to the the syslog for
capture from the TEC syslog adapter.
