Leslie,
The fix for runaway global ack is IY25469 and is only available for
6.0.3, not in 7.1. We are still waiting for it to either be worked out as
an e-fix to 7.1 or for the release of 7.1.1 which is supposed to have the
fix in it. The e-fix for 6.0.3 is on the ftp.tivoli site under the support
directory.
To answer Kevin Smith's original question, there are 2 ways to enable
global acknowledge. You can put the setting in:
/etc/environment file (requires server reboot every time you change it)
NVMAPGLOBALACK=1
OR
/usr/OV/bin/applsetup file (create/change the file, shut down all maps, and
bring them back up)
NVMAPGLOBALACK=1
export NVMAPGLOBALACK

Subject: RE: Acknowledging
This is covered in the release notes for 6.0.2. It involves exporting
the environment variable 'NVMAPGLOBALACK=1' in the profile
of the users. Be aware that there is a bug in it at 6.0.2 under some
circumstances - I think it was reported here that the cure was found,
though, so if you upgrade to 6.0.2 or 6.0.3 you can ask Support
about it. I believe it was a problem when there was more than one
Motif map open, and they would get going back and forth with
the Christmas-tree effect. Kind of scary and pretty at the same time.
But I've used it safely and often in web environments, where there
is only one Motif map.
Hey - why not go all the way to V7.1, and get the operators onto
that web client? (no sense in showing the the V6 client and then
changing again...) Lots of these issues go away then. Including my
favorite, dynamic membership in SmartSets, which you could never
make good use of in a read/only Motif map. V7.1 is really designed
for shops like yours with a number of operators.
Cordially,
