I have always recommended using 255 instead of 0 because so many of the networks I see have devices with interfaces that are considered unnumbered, but show up in the MIBs with an address of 0.0.0.0, and this can cause some odd lines to appear on the map. There is nothing magic about the 0 as a place holder. Any not-likely-to-be-used address would do. The programmers chose 0 expecting that it would not be used by real devices, but they do turn up.

Cordially,

Christopher

Thanks for the update. It is good to know that 255 is also valid.

IBM, If you are listening perhaps the NetView documentation can be changed
to reflect this. Or is this new to V7.1.4 as I only have V7.1.3.

255 or 0 is capable of being used.   I ahve loaded the fix they sent me.
And beleive this has cured the issue.

Why are you using 255 as the address pattern?

    EUROPE_ATT_EVPN 255 SITE
     Mauepas 1.1.1.1 Site EUROPE_ATT_EVPN

The documentation in location.conf use a 0.

    # Location symbols can be used just for placeholders, in which case
you may
    # specify 0 as the address pattern.  In the following example, the
'Tivoli'
    # location is simply used to hold other locations:
    #            Tivoli 0 State
    #            SalesOffices 146.84 "S. America" Tivoli
    #            "Development Offices" 146.92 City Tivoli

Also try clearing /usr/OV/log/location.log (i.e cp /dev/null
/usr/OV/log/location.log). Then look at the log to see any problems with
location.conf.

Just exited the GUI,
edited the location.conf file to add two new lcoations into the map

EUROPE_ATT_EVPN 255 SITE
Mauepas 1.1.1.1 Site EUROPE_ATT_EVPN

Neither of the sites show up on the map after I restart the GUI.

P.S. Currently the support team is telling me that the IY48698 APAR fix
cannot be ordered.
