Peter,
Can you do a "snmpwalk <hostname>".

There are several things that trouble me:
1) map not starting
2) Unable to run ovcommand(ovstatus in this case).
Only one ov command can run at any one time, so if
you have an ovstart still running(possibly hanging)
that would keep the ovstatus from running.

Check for any running ov(status, start, stop) commands
that may be running. If you find them, I would suggest
killing them(-9 if need be), then stopping all the daemons
(ovstop nvsecd) and restarting them with netnmrc. Once
that completes, check for any ovcommands running. If there
are none, try an ovstatus. It should work.

Thanks for the tip, I've removed the entries with 1 infront from ovsuf.
Snmpwalk localhost works correctly I get a mass of data scrolling up the
screen. When netviewd was not registered I was able to open a map, but when
I register netviewd I'm not able to open a map. I did the following to add
netviewd with a read only map. I've added netviewd.lrf with the -ro flag. The following occurs.
[gl02]:/usr/OV/lrf#sudo ovaddobj netviewd.lrf
ovaddobj - Static Registration Utility
Successful Completion
[gl02]:/usr/OV/lrf#sudo ovstart netviewd
ovstart: unable to receive status message from ovspmd: Connection timed out
[gl02]:/usr/OV/lrf#ps -ef | grep ovspmd
gbping1 54912 67898 0 14:11:54 pts/18 0:00 grep ovspmd
   root 97282 1 0 11:21:45 - 0:00 /usr/OV/bin/ovspmd
[gl02]:/usr/OV/lrf#ps -ef | grep netviewd
   root 50008 97282 0 13:57:17 - 0:00 /usr/OV/bin/netviewd
-display gl02:2 -ro
[gl02]:/usr/OV/lrf#ovstatus netviewd

I'm not able to issue an ovstatus either. Thanks Peter -----Original Message----- From: Paul [mailto:pstroud@bellsouth.net] Sent: 19 April 2004 14:18

Peter,
If the line does not start with a 0: then in is an inactive
entry and can be removed(serversetup has a way to do
this). That being said, removing that last line 1:whatever
should not have made any difference at all.

Are all the daemons starting OK, including netviewd?
Can you do "snmpwalk localhost"?

The map not starting sounds like you are unable to reach
your snmp daemon on the NetView server. Check the above
and let us know your results.

Hello again list,

Solved my initial problem, I had removed the line netviewd:/usr/OV..... from the netviewd.lrf.

If I register netviewd.lrf with the following in the file I get problems loading Netview, the process just seems to sit there and I cannot open a GUI. When I try to connect using the webconsole I get no maps open.

Netviewd.lrf as follows

netviewd:/usr/OV/bin/netviewd:

OVs_YES_START:nvsecd pmd ovwdb trapd ovtopmd ovactiond nvcorrd actionsvr nvserverd:-spmd 2, -ro:OVs_WELL_BEHAVED:30:

When I look in ovsuf I see the following.

1:netviewd:/usr/OV/bin/netviewd:OVs_YES_START:nvsecd pmd ovwdb trapd ovtopmd ovactiond nvcorrd actionsvr nvserverd:-spmd 2:OVs_WELL_BEHAVED:30:::

1:netviewd:/usr/OV/bin/netviewd:OVs_YES_START:nvsecd pmd ovwdb trapd ovtopmd ovactiond nvcorrd actionsvr nvserverd:-spmd 2:OVs_WELL_BEHAVED:30:::

1:netviewd:/usr/OV/bin/netviewd:OVs_YES_START:nvsecd pmd ovwdb trapd ovtopmd ovactiond nvcorrd actionsvr nvserverd:-spmd 2, -ro:OVs_WELL_BEHAVED:30:::

Any suggestions would be appreciate, should I remove the additional lines in ovsuf??

Regards

Peter

Hello List,

I've been trying to add the -ro flag to my netviewd.lrf file so my webconsole map runs as read only, however I kept receiving the error below. I removed the -ro from the file and still I receive this error. Any suggestions on where to look would be appreciated.

[gl02]:/usr/OV/lrf#sudo ovdelobj netviewd.lrf

ovdelobj - Static Registration Utility

ERROR: Invalid value in LRF record #1, Quality Of Service field. (OVs 1-13)

My netviewd.lrf contains

OVs_YES_START:nvsecd pmd ovwdb trapd ovtopmd ovactiond nvcorrd actionsvr nvserverd:-spmd 2:OVs_WELL_BEHAVED:30:

Running on AIX 5.1 ML5 NV 7.1.3

Regards

Peter
