Leslie's solution is very complete, because it allows users to select the object from the map and reset the field anyway they want. Quite a teaching tool, too, since it shows how xnmappmon and nvdbimport work.

Another method, perhaps a little simpler, since you have a ruleset running in ESE.automation, would be to the SetDataBaseField Node in that ruleset to set the field, and just write an snmptrap script to send the appropriate trap whenever you wanted it changed.
