I fought this battle recently.
The only available method I have seen from HP documentation
is that you can send the trap destination as part of the
info from a bootptab record. There doesn't seem to be any
way to do it from telnet or JetAdmin.
Also there is a note in the Jetdirect documentation that
says:
"The SNMP Trap does not provide printer status information.
SNMP Trap only provides limited HP JetDirect print server
information".
I believe that HP implemented a propietary MIB that only
speaks (anything of value) to their management products.
Just as an aside (a displeased one at that). It seems that
the peer to peer agent that can be downloaded with JetAdmin
allows any Win95 computer with it installed to print to a
JetDirect irregardless of protocols or network security
implementations. Just give it a MAC address for the
JetDirect and it will pick a protocol and let you print.
